Aaron Rowand (OF), San Francisco Giants
Aaron Rowand has to be one of the most frustrating players in fantasy baseball as well as the real game.
...
His BABIP is fairly low this season (.258), about 50 points off his career number. He was never much for taking walks, but his current 2.8 percent walk rate is a new career low. But those things alone don’t explain such a steep drop in production. Is this just a terrible slump, or is there something more sinister going on with Rowand?
...
Looking over his hitting metrics, one thing that jumps right off the page is his batting average against the fastball. Last season he batted .312 against the heater, but this season he’s only batting .217. Rowand is also swinging at more pitches out of the strike zone than ever before, nearly 44 percent of them to be more exact, as opposed to just under 29 percent for his career. He seems to be working behind in the count more often as well. Rowand is ending up with a first pitch strike 69.5 percent of the time, well above his career average of 60.9. All of which points to some serious problems with Rowand’s approach at the plate, something that will require some dedicated work to fix. Therefore, if you’re banking on him returning to his early season form, it may be a long time before it happens. Best to move on and let someone else gamble on him getting his mojo back.
